After installing an updated AU plugin, Gig Performer doesn’t find it

Aug 18, 2019 | Knowledge Base Articles, OS X

If you have just updated your AU plugin, but Gig Performer does not ‘see’ the updated version, see the tip below.

Gig Performer is an audio plugin host that supports AudioUnit (AU) plugins, VST3 and VST plugins. AU plugins are Mac-only:

Generally, if you install or update an Audio Unit plugin, you have to log out or possibly even reboot your computer before the updated AU becomes visible.

If you don’t do this, the old AU will still be registered and so Gig Performer will not find the new one.

NB: Audio Units (AU) are simply a type of plugin. They’re one of the most popular formats alongside VST2 (Virtual Studio Technology), VST3, and AAX (Avid Audio eXtention for Pro Tools). To make a distinction, people sometimes say that VSTs are for Windows while AUs are for Mac, but you can run VST plugins on Mac as well. Audio Units are exclusive to Mac and will not run on a Windows machine.

However, if you want to your gig files to be cross-platform, you must use the VST version of your plugins. To learn more, check out the related topics section.
